Hi, I'm Sajjad Ahmed (Niloy)

I'm a leading AI & Machine Learning professional from Bangladesh, with a background in software engineering and 7+ years of experience — including 5+ years managing engineering teams.

Currently, I lead the Machine Learning Engineering team at Optimizely and serve as a part-time faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at United International University (UIU) in Dhaka. Previously, I worked as a Data Science Manager at Robi Axiata Ltd and as a Data Scientist at Axiata Group Bhd.

I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from BRAC University. I have expertise in productizing, developing, and deploying large-scale Machine Learning models on Big Data platforms (Cloudera), cloud (AWS), and local environments. I love to play and experiment with algorithms — some early experiments live at www.niloy.red. Primary languages: Python and Java; also Android, Spring, and Django.

A Comparison of LSTM and GRU for Bengali Speech-to-Text Transformation

In Proceedings of the 2023 International Conference on Advances in Computing Research (ACR'23)

This paper represents an approach to speech-to-text conversion in the Bengali language. A novel dataset of 56 unique words from 160 individual subjects was prepared. Using LSTM, the work achieved 90% accuracy on an unexplored dataset, validated across demographic populations and noise conditions, toward real-time Bengali speech-to-text recognition.

Benchmarking and Selecting Optimal Diabetic Retinopathy Detecting Machine Learning Model using Entropy and TOPSIS Method

ICECCME 2021 · IEEE Xplore

After pre-processing a DR dataset, Inception-v3 extracts features and eight models are trained and evaluated on ten metrics. Entropy-weighted TOPSIS benchmarks the models; AdaBoost is selected as the best detector for the studied data.

2019

Classification of Categorical Objects in Ventral Temporal Cortex using fMRI Data

TENCON 2019 · IEEE Xplore

Machine learning on fMRI data from the ventral temporal cortex classifies objects subjects viewed (cat, chair, etc.). With hyper-parameter tuning, SVM (96.92%) and k-NN (96.90%) performed best — with implications for BCI solutions.

2019

Pattern recognition with Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) on near-term quantum processors

BRAC University thesis · DSpace

Maps classical feature points onto a quantum computer and proposes a QSVM model for near-term superconducting quantum processors, showing quantum optimization can train a discriminative SVM for pattern recognition.
